LegalXML Approach

LegalXML focuses the recognized standards development processes of OASIS on the grand challenges of interoperability in the legal industry.

Open
LegalXML is part of OASIS the not-for-profit, global consortium that drives the development, convergence and adoption of e-business standards.

Member-driven
Members themselves set the LegalXML agenda, using the open OASIS technical process expressly designed to promote industry consensus and unite disparate efforts.

Industry-Focused
LegalXML produces standards for electronic court filing, court documents, legal citations, transcripts, criminal justice intelligence systems, and others.

Collaborative
OASIS members participating in LegalXML include lawyers, developers, application vendors, government agencies and members of academia.

LegalXML Members

Organizations that drive the work of LegalXML are Sponsors and Contributors of OASIS. Through OASIS, LegalXML maintains liaisons with other international standards-setting bodies. In addition to the organizations listed on these pages, LegalXML also has a large constituency of Individual OASIS members. OASIS members participating in LegalXML include lawyers, developers, application vendors, government agencies and members of academia.

LegalXML Governance

The OASIS LegalXML Steering Committee coordinates the work of and manages allocated resources to Technical Committees in the Member Section according to the OASIS Member Section Policy and the LegalXML Rules of Procedure.

The Steering Committee is constituted by a combination of TC representatives and elected “at-large” representatives. Each TC selects its own representative to serve on the Steering Committee and the entire membership of the LegalXML Member Section elects two or three at-large representatives to the Steering Committee annually.
